Box setup

Fill in your network details, download the file, copy it onto a USB key, then plug the key into the Box
No home WiFi?If the Box is connected to an already-active cellular internet device, such as a USB modem or cellular router through a powered USB hub, you do not need to enter a WiFi password here. Connect the internet device and the USB key, then wait for the steady light. This file generator is for WiFi setup.
WiFi connection
Box instructions
  1. Enter the WiFi network name and password here, then generate the setup file.
  2. Copy VMAIL-WIFI.txt to the root of the USB key. If your computer downloaded it as VMAIL-WIFI (1).txt or similar, rename it back to VMAIL-WIFI.txt and keep only one such file on the key.
  3. Plug the USB key into the port marked for the disk, and connect the power cable to the power port. If these are swapped, the Box may connect to the network but will not read the disk.
  4. Wait until the light stops blinking and stays on. The Box is then ready to use.
Light status & troubleshooting
Slow blinking

The Box is not connected to the internet yet.

Steady light

The Box is connected and ready.

Fast blinking

A file transfer is currently running.

If the light keeps blinking
  • Check that the network name and password are exact, including uppercase and lowercase letters.
  • Use a 2.4 GHz network. Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W does not connect to a 5 GHz-only network.
  • If there is no home WiFi, you can test an already-active cellular internet device, such as a USB modem or cellular router, using a powered USB hub.
  • On filtered or public networks, the connection may be blocked. Use another network or ask for the service to be opened.
  • When the connection succeeds, the email with the Box number usually arrives within one minute.
