Vmail Plus - Privacy Policy
Chrome extension for Gmail, published by Virtual Mail. Last updated: October 12, 2026.
What the extension does
Vmail Plus adds tools to Gmail on your computer: read receipts for the emails you send, dictation, voice notes, reading emails aloud, a conversation view, a media player for attachments, a list of unread emails per inbox, and the detection of one-time verification codes in the emails you receive.
Data that stays on your computer
- Your settings, the list of emails you track, your notes and the list of your Gmail inboxes are stored in
Chrome's own storage (
chrome.storage) on your device. - Dictation uses the speech recognition built into Chrome. Reading aloud uses the voices built into Chrome.
- The unread-email list and email previews are read directly from Gmail with your existing Gmail session. This content is never sent to our servers.
- Verification codes (sign-in, verification or activation codes) are detected on your computer, in the
unread emails Gmail already lists. When a code is found, the extension shows a notification and can copy the
code to your clipboard (permissions
notifications, offscreenandclipboardWrite). The code is kept in Chrome's session memory only, erased when Chrome closes, and is never sent anywhere. You can turn this feature or the automatic copy off in the settings.
Read receipts: what is sent, and where
When you send an email with read receipts turned on, the extension creates a random secret key on your
computer and adds a 1x1 image to the email. The image address is a one-way fingerprint of that key. The
extension registers the key with our read-receipt service (t.email36.com, hosted by Cloudflare).
The service stores only: the fingerprint, the time the email was sent, and the time of each opening (with the kind of request: Google image relay or other). It does not store your address, the recipient's address, the subject, the content, the network address (IP) or the browser identification.
Only the extension holding the secret key can ask whether the email was opened. A recipient sees the image address, never the key. All records are deleted automatically after 180 days.
Recipients who use the Virtual Mail phone service and listen to your email by phone count as an ordinary opening: nothing tells you that the recipient uses Virtual Mail.
For emails sent by the Virtual Mail phone service from your linked Gmail account, Virtual Mail keeps the key of each email so that the extension can show their read status.
You can turn read receipts off globally, or for a single email, at any time.
Anonymous usage count
Once a day, the extension tells the same service that it is installed, so that we know how many people use it. It sends only a random number created on your computer (unrelated to your emails and to any account), the version of the extension and the language of Chrome. No address, no email data, no network address (IP). These daily records are deleted automatically after 180 days.
